Genus: Jiucaiyuangnathus LIU & ABDALA, 2024
Etymology: 'Jiucaiyuan', in reference to the stratigraphic unit which produced the specimens, and Greek, gnathus, "jaw".

Species: cynops BROOM, 1909
Etymology: 'confusus',referes to teh confusion on codings on many important characters adn its result phylogenetic position.

Holotype: IVPP V32946

Locality: 18J4, Jimsar, N43°58'29", E88°58'29", Xinjiang Province, China.

Horizon: Base of teh Jiuciayuan Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Lower Triassic.

Material: A partial snout with occluded partial lower jaw.

Referred material:

IVPP V32946-1, -2: Two postcranial skeletons preserved on the same slab. The partial skull is indeed associated with one of the skeletons, but considering the similairty in size of the skeletons it is not possible to assign the skull with confidence to any of them.
