Genus: Lumkuia HOPSON & KITCHING, 2001
Etymology: In reference to the Lumku Catholic Mission, near the town of Lady Ferere, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, near which the specimen was found.

Species: fuzzi HOPSON & KITCHING, 2001
Etymology: In honor of A. W. “Fuzz” Crompton, in recogniation of his distinguished career as a student of cynodonts and early mammals.

Holotype: BP/1/2669

Locality: In the vicinity of the Lumku Catholic Mission, near the town of Lady Ferere, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Horizon: Burgersdorp Formation, Tarkastad Subgroup.

Biostratigraphy: Cynognathus zone, subzone B.

Age: Spathian Stage, uppermost Scythian Epoch to Anisian Stage, lowermost Mid Triassic Epoch, Early to Middle Triassic.

Material: Partial skeleton, including skull and lower jaws, left scapulocoracoid and clavicle, most of left forelimb, and 2 articulated segments of the axial skeleton, the latter consists of 10 dorsal vertebrae with associated ribs and 8 caudal vertebrae.
