Etymology: Local Bemba word, nshimba, "genet" and the Ionic Greek, -odon, "tooth."

Species: muchingaensis HUTTENLOCKER & SIDOR, 2020 (published in 2021)
Etymology: In reference to the Muchinga Escarpment which forms the border of the Luangwa Valley and Latin, -ensis, "from or pertaiing to."

Holotype: NHCC LB277

Locality: Locality L54, near the southern border of North Luangwa National Park, Muchinga Province, Zambia.

Horizon: Upper Madumabisa Mudtoen Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Equivalent to the upper Cistecphealus and Lower Daptocephalus Assemblage zones.

Age: Wuchipingian Age, Lopingian Subepoch, Zechstein Epoch, Late Permian.

Material: A nearly complete cranium wiht articualted hemimandibles and associated anterior postcranial elements.
