Genus: Ophidostoma HUTTENLOCKER & SMITH, 2017
Etymology: Greek, ophido-, "snake/serpent" and Greek, stoma, "mouth," in reference to the wide gape permitted by the loose mandibular symphysis and streptostylic jaw of whaitsoid therocephalians.

Species: tatarinovi HUTTENLOCKER & SMITH, 2017
Etymology: In honor of Leonid Tatarinov for his contributions to whaitsoid systematics and therocephalian funcitonal anatomy.

Holotype: SMA-PK-K8516

Locality: Good Luck, Matjiesfontein 412, near Fraserburg, northern Cape Province, South Africa.

Horizon: Oukloof Member, Teekloof Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Upper Cistecephalus Zone.

Age: Upper Wuchiapingian Stage, Lopingian Epoch, Late Permian.

Material: Weathered skull and articulated mandible missing po9rtions of palate adn braincase.
