Etymology: In reference to the well-known Panchet Formation (Lower Triassic) of India + Cynodon.

Species: damodarensis DAS & GUPTA, 2012
Etymology: In referene to the river Damodar which flows through the study area, West Bengal, India.

Holotype: GSI Type No. Pal/CHQ/25

Locality: From a clay pellet rich calcareous sandstone bed, exposed near Dumdumi village, Longitude 86°53.656', Latitude 23°38.029, on the right bank of Damodar River, West Bengal, India.

Horizon: Upper Panchet Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Correlated to the Lootsbergian Land Vertebrate Faunachron.

Age: Induan stage, upper Scythian Epoch, Early Triassic.

Material: A partial left lower jaw with five postcranines damaged to various extents tin the repository of the Palaeontology Divison - 1, Geological Survey of India, Kolkata.
