Genus: Riojanodon MARTINELLI, EZCURRA, FIORELLI, ESCOBAR, HECHENLEITNER, von BACZKO, TABORDA & DESOJO, 2024
Etymology: The root Riojan, in reference to the La Rioja Province, in north-western Argentina, where the fossils come from a province with an exquisite Triassic fossil record and Greek, odon, “tooth”: Grinding tooth.

Etymology: In honor of Sr. Roberto "Neno" Narvaez, a ranger of the Talampaya National Park, who has always unconditionally helped us during the field trips. He has been important to trace old fossil bearing localities and potential outcrops inside the Talampaya National Park.

Holotype: CRILAR-Pv 085

Locality: Campo de Cordoba Norte locality, 29°49'S-67°45'W, Talampaya National Park, Ischigualastro-Villa Union Basin, La Rioja Province, northwestern Argentina.

Horizon: Lower Member, Chanares Formation, Agua de la Pena Group.

Biostratigraphy: Tarjadia AZ.

Age: Close to the Ladinian Stage, Mid Triassic Epoch, Middle Triassic-Carnian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Anterior portion of lower jaw, with partial dentition, and a complete lower jaw postcanine tooth.
