Genus: Tessellatia GAETANO, ABDALA, SEOANE, TARTAGILONE, SCHULTZ, OTERO, LEARDI, APALDETTI, KRAPOVICKAS & STEIMBACK, 2022
Etymology: Latin, tessella, "each one of the tiles composing a mosaic", in reference to the combination of basal and derived features recognized in this taxon.

Etymology: In honor of the late Dr. Jose F. Bonaparte, who worked unrelentingly to broaden our knowledge of Mesozoic ecosystems and described the first cynodont remains from the Los Colorados Formaiton.

Holotype: PULAR-V121

Locality: Talampaya National Park, La Rioja Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Upper third of the Los Colorados Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Carnian Stage, Late Trassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Partial cranium, represented by teh snouth and orbital region, with associted lower jaws.
