Genus: Traversodon HUENE, 1936
Etymology: Latin, tranversus, “transverse, oblique” and Greek, odon, “tooth”: Transverse tooth. For the post-canines with three grinding cusps in a transverse line across the tooth relative to the jaw, forming a "cross-bar".

Locality: Cynodont Sanga, west of Chiniqua, Muncipal Sao Pedro do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.

Horizon: Upper Santa Maria Member, Santa Maria Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Therapsid (Dinodontosaurus) Assemblae Zone.

Age: Early Carnian Stage, Early Late Triassic Epoch, Early Late Triassic.

Material: Skull and dentary.
