Etymology: In honor of Yuan Fuli who was a pioneer Chinese geologist and paleontologist who worked in Xinjiang early in the last century, and Latin, therion, "beast."

Etymology: Laitn, minor, "small."

Holotype: IVPP V15335

Locality: Wucaiwan ara of Junggar Basin, northeastern Xinjiang Province, China.

Horizon: Upper part of the Shishugou Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Oxfordian Stage, Lower Malm Epoch, Early Late Jurassic.

Material: A partial left upper jaw with anterior 3 postcanines.
