Etymology: In reference to Angola, where the specimen was found, and and Latin, chelys, "turtle."

Etymology: Mbaxi means turtle in Angolan Nyaneka-Nkumbi and Kimbundo languages.

Holotype: MGUAN-PA 002

Locality: Iembe, Bengo Province, Angolia.

Horizon: Tadi Beds, Itombe Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Upper Turonian Stage, Late Gallic Subepoch, Early Gulf Epoic, Middle Cretaceous.

Material: An almost complete skull, an ungual phalanx, 2 cervical vertebrae, porximal part of the ilium, shell parts, and a few uninformative fragments.
