Genus: Euraxemys GAFFNEY, TONG & MEYLAN, 2006
Etymology: Greek, eurax, "sideways'' and Greek, emys, "turtle"; in allusion
to the pleurodrian nature.
Species: essweini GAFFNEY, TONG & MEYLAN, 2006
Etymology: In honr of Stephan Esswein, a student of pleurodire development
at Tübingen University, who passed away prematurely in 1993.
Holotype: FR 4922
Locality: Araripe Basin, Brazil.
Horizon: Santana Formation, Araripe Group.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Albian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: Nearly complete skeleton.
