Genus: Galianemys GAFFNEY, TONG & MEYLAN, 2002
Etymology: In honor of Mr. Henry Galiano in obtaining specimens of this and other turtles, and for his lifelong interest and support of paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History, and Greek, emys, "turtle."

Etymology: In honor of Richard S. White who brought a numbr of specimens to our attention and aided our work.
