Etymology: Galvechelone refers to Galve, the town where the holotype was
found and Greek, chelone, 'turtle'.

Etymology: In honorus of Dr. Nieves Lopez-martinez for her contributions to
Spanish palaeontology and, especially, for her great support for the current
project on the study of the Iberian fossil turtles.
Holotype: MPB/CR(m3)
Locality: Cerrada-Roya mine outcrop, Galve region, Galve sub-basin, Maestrazgo Basin, Central Iberian Ranges, Teruel Province, Spain.
Horizon: Camarillas Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Barremian Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Middle Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: Articulated antero-medial area of a carapace, retaining the complete first three dorsal vetebrae and teh anterior half of the fourth and the dorsal half of the eight cervical vertebra.
