Etymology: From Spanish, hoyas, the source of the specimen, and Greek, emys, "fresh water turtle."

Etymology: In honor of Dr. Emiliano Jimenez Fuentes for his contribution to the konwledge of Spanish fossil turtles.

Holotype: MCCM-LH 84

Locality: Las Hoyas fossil site, La Cierva Township, 20 km east of Cuenca, in the Castellan Branch of the Iberian Range, Cuenca Province, Spain.

Horizon: Calizas de La Huerguina Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Upper Hauterivian Stage, Late Neocomian subepoch-Lower Barremian Stage, Early Gallic subepoch, Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: An almost complete skeleton, missing dorsal portion of skull. The specimen is preserved on two slabs. One shows the ventral view of the skull, the five proximal cervical vertebrae, some dorsal vertebrae, some fragments of the peripherals and of the laterial part of the costal plates, the plastron, sacral and caudal vertebrae and the appendicular skeleton. The other slab preserves the partial carapace and soem bones of the hind limb.
