Etymology: The generic name is composed by the words Jurassic, the peroid in which that tutrle lived, and Greek, chelone, "turtle."

Age: Portlandian, Early Tithonian Stage, Upper Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Almost complete skull, 4 cervical vertebrae, the anterior half of the carapace (i.e. the nuchal, the first 2 pairs of peripherals, the first 4 neurals, the complete first 3 right coastals, the complete first left costal, and the partial fourth right and second and third left costals), some peripherals, and the anterior half of th eplastron (i.e. the complete left hyplastron, most of the right one escept its most anterior region, the most anterior region, the most anterior area of the left hypoplastron, and the anterolateral region of the right hyoplastron).
