Genus: Kinkonychelys GAFFNEY, KRAUSE & ZALMOUT, 2009
Etymology: In reference to the Lac Kinkony (pronounced "kin-Koon-ee"), Mahajanga Basin, Mahajana Province, northeastern Madagascar the study area, in which the type specimen was recovered, and Greek, chelys, "turtle".

Species: rogersi GAFFNEY, KRAUSE & ZALMOUT, 2009
Etymology: In honor of Raymond R. Rogers, discoverer of the type specimen, in recognition of his important discovery, but also of his many contributions to knowledge of the stratigraphy, sedimentology, and taphonomy of Upper Cretaceous starta of the Mahajanga Basin.

Locality: MAD 07-25, latitufe 16°14.5"S, Longitude 45°44.10"E, Lac Kinkony Study Area, approximately 2 km north of the western end of Lac Kinkony and 4.9 km northeast of the village of Antongomena, Mahajanga Basin, Mahajana Province, northeastern Madagascar.

Horizon: Unnamed member, Maevarano Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, Uppermost Senonian Subepoch, Uppermost Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A nearly complete skull, including the basicranium, but missing the premaxilla, vomer, squamosal, and quadratojugal.
