Etymology: Sanskrit, kurma, “turtle,” in allustion ot the second-stage incarnation of Lord Vishnu as a turtle in Hindu Mythology.

Species: kallamedensis GAFFNEY, CHATTERJEE & RUDRA, 2001
Etymology: In reference to the Kallamedu Formation, latest Cretaceous.

Holotype: ISI R152

Locality: Near the village of Kallamedu, Tamil Nadu State, Southern India.

Horizon: Kallamedu Formation, Ariyalur Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Uppermost Maastrichtian, Uppermost Senonian Subepoch, Uppermost Gulf Epoch, Latest Cretaceous.

Material: A nearly complete skull lacking the dorsal part of prefrontals, the posterior part of the crista subpraoccipitals and part of the left quadratojugal.
