Etymology: Malagsay, mailaka, "quick" and Malasay, vava, "mouth." In reference to the 'quick-mouthed frog turtle' in allusion to the frog-like appearance of the skull and its inferred quick mode of suction feeding.

Holotype: UA 10581 (Field number MAD 15359)

Locality: MAD 05-38, Berivotra study area, near the village of Berivotra, approximately 35 km southeast of the city of Mahajanga, Boeny Region, Mahajanga Basin, Mahajanga Province, Madagascar.

Horizon: Anembalemba Member, Maevarano Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, Late Senonian Subepoch, Late Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Skull, mandible, partial hyoids, shell and remains of limbs, girdles and vertebrae.
