Etymology: Sanskrit, sankuch, “compressed”; in allusion to the remarkably crushed specimen, and Greek, emys, "pond turtle."

Etymology: In honor of Prof. S. F. Sethna, known for his pioneering work on the geology of the Mumbai region.

Holotype: SDS./VPL 1125

Locality: Amboli Quarry, Jogeshwari, Mumbai (Bombay) Distirct, Maharashtra State, India.

Horizon: Intertrappean beds.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian subepoch, Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A complete but crushed skull.
