Etymology: Latin, scabr, "rough"; in reference to its unusually rought, nodular sculpturing on the carapace, and Greek, emys, "pond turtle."

Locality: 3 miles (5 km) northeast of Hunter's Store (Bisti P. O.), SW 1/4, T24N, R13W, San Juan County, New Mexico.

Horizon: Hunter Wash Local Fauna, Hunter Wash Member, Lower Kirtland Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Kirtlandian age, Upper Campanian Stage- Lower Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian subepoch, Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A nearly perfect carapace and plastron.

Referred material:

USNM 12821: Carapace.

 

Locality: "Wash south of Ojo Alamo Wash," 9 miles northeast of Tsaya, San Juan County, New Mexico.

Horizon: Hunter Wash Member, Lower Kirtland Formation.
