Genus: Sokotochelys HALSTEAD, 1979
Etymology: In reference to Sokoto state, Nigeria, where the specimen was found and Greek, chelys, "turtle": hence meaning Sokoto turtle.

Species: lawanhungudui HALSTEAD, 1979
Etymology: In honour of Alhaji Lawan Bungundu, formerly Hon. Commissioner of Education, Sokoto State, Nigeria.

Holotype: SOGS. Pal. Coll. number 1.

Locality: On northern face of Benbow Hill to the southeast of the village of Gilbedi, Sokoto State, Nigeria.

Horizon: Approximately 2 m above bone bed, Dukamje Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, uppermost Senonian subepoch, Upper Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Fragmentary skull and shell.

Species: umarumohammedi HALSTEAD, 1979
Etymology: In honour of Colonel Umaru Alhji Mohammed, formerly Military Governor of Sokoto State, Nigeria.

Holotype: SOGS Pal. Coll.number 2.

Locality: On northern face of Benbow Hill to the southeast of the village of Bilbedi, Sokoto State, Nigeria.

Horizon: Approximately 2 m above bone bed, Dukamaje Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, uppermost Senonian subepoch, Upper Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Fragmentary skull and fragmentary shell.
