Etymology: 'Walu' referes to the word 'turtle' in diaguita languate (of the native people from San Juan and La Rioja) and Greek, chelys, "turtle."

Species: cavitesta STERLI, MARTINEZ, CERDA & APALDETTI, 2021
Etymology: Latin, cavum, "hollow, hole"and Latin, testa, "shell." In reference to the cavities present in the peripheral bone.

Holotype: PVSJ 903

Locality: 'Quebrada del Puma' locality, Caucete Department, San Juan Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Quebrada del BarroFormation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Norian-Early Rhaetian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Right, anterior and posterior border of the carapace, anterior and right bridge of the plastron, both pectoral girdles and thoracic vertebrae 1, 2 and 7-10.

Referred material:

PVSJ 904:Posterolateral border of the carapace, posterior lobe of the plastron, pelvic girdle, teh last 2 thoracic vertebrae and 2 sacral vertebrae.

PVSJ 1092: A diagonal thin portion of the basicranium, posterior rim of the carapace with 5 caudal vertebrae, 2 isolated caudal vertebrae and several isolated shell fragments.

PVSJ 1093: Posterior border of the carapace with remains of both ischia, both pubes, remains of the ilium, 4 caudal vertebrae, posterior lobe of the plastron, left pectoral girdle, and indeterminate shell remains.
