Note: Cope named Belodon buceros in 1881, Marsh named Belodon validus in 1893. Jaekel (1910) renamed Belodon buceros “Metarhinus” buceros. Mehl (1916) noted the name Metahrinus was preoccupied by Osborn (1908) so he coined the name Machaeroprosopus, but he did not make B. buceros the type, but B. validus.
